During this edition of the Baloise Belgium Tour 2025 (17–22 June), we will pay tribute to Ludo Dierckxsens, who was loved by the entire peloton and certainly also by the organisers of the Baloise Belgium Tour. Ludo passed away recently, but his presence and his eternal smile will remain palpable throughout the entire race.
Ludo Dierckxsens and the Baloise Belgium Tour were inextricably linked for many years. The former cyclist held numerous positions in the organisation: ambassador, safety expert and, above all, he was a dedicated employee.
In recent years, he was the regular driver of Race Director Jan Nys’ car. His close friend Koen Buyse will take his place in the car this year.
Don’t stop me now
Throughout the week of the Baloise Belgium Tour, we will be commemorating Ludo in many ways. On Tuesday 17 June, there will be a minute’s applause for Ludo during the team presentation, and a day later, a minute’s silence will be observed at the start of the first stage in Merelbeke-Melle.
Additionally, his favourite song, Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now, will be played over the PA system during the presentation of the riders before the start of each stage.
Smile for Ludo
The greatest lasting memory of Ludo Dierckxsens? That has to be his eternal smile. To keep that memory alive, all the cars in the caravan will be decorated with a Smile for Ludo sticker. A large banner reminding us to Smile for Ludo will be displayed in the public area at the finish line.
Ludo will be missed, but never forgotten. Smile for Ludo. Forever.
