Alex Aranburu pocketed the win in the queen stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour on Saturday. The 28-year-old Spaniard of Movistar was the strongest on the Mur De Durbuy.
“It was a tough stage with a particularly difficult uphill final. My team kept the pace particularly tight, which was necessary because the four in front were not sitting still. It took us a while to catch them, but then I managed to move to the front at the right moment, win and take the accompanying ten bonus seconds,” commented an overjoyed Aranburu.
Key seconds. After all, Aranburu moves up to third place in the general classification thanks to his stage win and the bonus seconds. The Spaniard is six seconds behind leader Søren Wærenskjold and may have a shot at overall victory in the final stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour.
“I’m already very happy with this win. It was our team’s goal at the beginning of this week. Now that I am also in a good position in the general classification, I might try to have a shot at overall victory tomorrow. I’m not slow, but I certainly don’t compare to real sprinters like Jasper Philipsen.”
